#ReactResiliently

We’ve all seen the research showing that minority groups in the tech workforce are sometimes at a disadvantage. People in minority groups are often paid less than their counter parts, promoted less often, and are less likely to receive certain opportunities. Often, they face micro aggressions by their counterparts on a daily basis.

These circumstances add up to the perfect storm for a variety of awkward scenarios, difficult conversations, and feelings of not belonging or knowing what to do. And this is where #ReactResiliently comes in to play.

#ReactResiliently promotes reacting to such situations. And doing so with grace and resilience. My goal is to start discussions on ways to identify these situations and bring up conversation about the mental thought processes and actionable items that will help us eradicate these issues.

One day I wish to see a world where labels don’t dictate opportunities in the tech field. The kind of world in which one’s age, gender, ethic background, and size do not determine how one is treated. Hopefully the conversations initiated by #ReactResiliently help bring us closer to this vision.

You can find #ReactResiliently presented on my Instagram page @codewithshreya. I’ll embed the posts on this site as well under “Posts.”
